Great question and thanks for asking. The short answer is that people are like seeds of a tree. Stay with me here. In nature, a seed from a tree begins to grow when the environment provides nutrients in the soil, water, sunlight and proper temperatures. People have seeds of greatness, success and potential inside of them just waiting to grow. Great leadership activates the growth process in people. You see people experience growth when the environment they work in provides encouragement, challenging assignments, opportunities to develop, and chances to learn from failure, clear direction and supportive positive leadership. A growth environment doesn’t just happen by mistake. Leaders create it and nurture it.
So what does this have to do with Changing Leaf? There’s an old expression of ‘turning over a new leaf’, which means to begin again, start fresh or begin living and behaving in a more positive and productive way. Changing Leaf Inc. is about changing the lives of leaders by helping them be intentional with their continuous growth journey. It’s not enough to simply ‘turn over a new leaf.’ That’s only the starting point. A tree grows for years and changes as it weathers storms, adapts to a changing environment, and grows deep roots of strength. A growing leader is a changing leader and growth happens daily and not in a day. In other words, it takes a lifetime to grow as a leader. Personal growth has no finish line and a truly effective, positively influential leader will always be growing and changing to raise the lid on their leadership effectiveness. When a leader gets better, everyone wins. Changing the life of a leader positively changes the lives of many.
The longer answer to the question will be revealed in another blog entry. It involves a painting, a personal commitment and tale of a time when an organization lacked leadership and the people were looking for inspiration, relevancy, guidance, support, and clarity. Stay tuned, stay inspired and keep leading and learning.
